This week, we sat down with Lucy Shepherd and learned more about her journey to Dallas Trinity FC all the way from England.
Q: What was your soccer journey like up until this point?
A: I grew up playing on an all-boys team up until the age of 12 when girls could no longer play with boys. At one of my last games with the boy’s team, there was a scout for Aston Villa who was there to watch someone after my game, but he ended up getting there early and watching me play and then asked me to come down for trials for the Aston Villa Girls Center of Excellence. I got selected and I played for Aston Villa for eight years. After that, I went to Hofstra University for four and a half years and played there. I got drafted 23rd pick to the Washington Spirit and was with them for preseason camp, and then I went home to England for my first pro season and played with the London City Lionesses, and then I played for the Blackburn Rovers and now I am here.
Q: What made you choose Dallas Trinity FC?
A: From my very first conversations with Chris Petrucelli, the setup of the program seemed very good. I liked that it was family orientated and I wanted a new challenge and Dallas is a place I have never been before. I also liked the style of play that the technical staff talked about and that drew me to the team as well.
Q: What was been your favorite moment so far this season?
A: Playing against Barcelona so far, we went up against some of the world’s best players and arguably the worlds best team was an experience I am likely to never experience again. Seeing the crowd and everyone that came out to support was really cool.
Q: What makes this team special?
A: Every player brings a different characteristic and we all gel together really well. We all have something unique that we bring to the team and I am excited to see where that can take us.
Q: Who is your biggest inspiration in life?
A: My family, their hard work and determination is inspiring.
Q: What advice do you have for someone who wants to play professional soccer?
A: Avoid all of the outside noise and stick to your goals and dreams and you will achieve them.
