We sat down with DTFC defender Maya Gordon and learned more about her journey to get to Dallas, what she is looking forward to this season, and much more.
Q: What has your soccer journey looked like to get to this point?
A: “I started playing soccer when I was three, it was when my brothers were just born…(I have
triplet brothers), so it was a lot at one time and my parents were just looking for anything for me
to do. I tried so many different sport…my mom even tricked me into a basketball game one time,
but out of everything I tried I just loved soccer, I loved to score goals (even though I am a
defender)…I played on the same club team (Sunrise Sting in South Florida) ever since I was 7
[and]I played with the same girls..the whole time I was at that club. After that, I went to
LSU..[with one of the girls I played on Sunrise Sting with]…I played at LSU for five seasons, and
now I am here!”
Q: What made you choose Dallas Trinity FC?
A: “…Every time I have left home I have gained new experiences…I wanted more of that. I
wanted more experiences, more life, and I knew if I had stayed home, I would have stayed in
my comfort zone. And I wanted to get out of my comfort zone, and I am glad that I did..all of the
girls [on the team] are awesome.”
Q: What are you most excited about being in Dallas?
A: “All of the food. There is so much food. I am excited to experience a new place, I don’t know
much about Dallas..but I am just excited to go through this whole season with this group of
girls!”
Q: What has been your favorite soccer memory of your career?
A: “My junior year at LSU, we were so good for so long..we were top five in the nation at one
point! We were riding such a high for so long, and it was such a good group of girls. It was
great!”
Q: What are your favorite hobbies outside of soccer?
A: “I love to read fantasy novels, and I write poetry sometimes..I [also] love going to the gym
alone and listening to podcasts.”
Q: Who is your biggest inspiration?
A: “My mom. She is just so cool – I don’t know how she does it! She has so many kids, does so
much, and is a queen, honestly. I want to be just like her.”
