New national competition will bring Gainbridge Super League clubs together with NWSL teams in a single-elimination tournament
Dallas Trinity FC will have a new opportunity to take on some of the top women’s soccer clubs in the country after U.S. Soccer announced the launch of the Arthur M. Blank Crest Cup, a new national women’s club competition featuring teams from the Gainbridge Super League and National Women’s Soccer League.
The inaugural Crest Cup will bring together all clubs from the two U.S. Soccer Division I-sanctioned professional women’s leagues in a single-elimination knockout tournament, culminating in a championship final. The winner will receive a record-setting $1.1 million prize and earn a pathway to qualification for the Concacaf W Champions Cup.
For Dallas Trinity FC, the competition creates the possibility of facing NWSL opponents in meaningful competition for the first time. The inaugural field will include 24 clubs, 16 from the NWSL and eight from the Gainbridge Super League, giving Dallas the opportunity to be matched up against any of the country’s top professional women’s clubs.
The tournament does not have a confirmed start date yet. U.S. Soccer said the schedule will be determined in consultation with the league and other stakeholders as organizers work to incorporate the new competition into the women’s professional soccer calendar.

Continuing a Tradition of Big Matchups
Since taking the field for the first time in 2024, Dallas Trinity FC has already developed a tradition of stepping outside its league schedule to compete against prominent clubs from around the world.
The club’s first-ever match came against FC Barcelona at the Cotton Bowl on Aug. 30, 2024. The matchup gave Dallas an opportunity to take the field against one of the most accomplished women’s clubs in the world just weeks after the club’s inaugural season began.
A year later, Dallas hosted Club América Femenil during the inaugural State Fair Clásico. The international friendly drew 22,838 fans to the Cotton Bowl, setting a Texas record for attendance at a professional women’s sporting event at the time.
That tradition continued into 2026 with the inaugural I-45 Texas Showdown against the Houston Dash. Dallas defeated the NWSL club, 1-0, in front of 6,110 fans at the Cotton Bowl in the first public Division I professional women’s soccer match between two Texas clubs.
Dallas again welcomed an international opponent to the Cotton Bowl this season for the 2026 State Fair Clásico, hosting Chivas Femenil on Oct. 17. Trinity earned a 3-2 victory over the Liga MX Femenil side, adding another memorable chapter to the club’s growing history of high-profile matchups outside league play.
The Crest Cup Could Take Those Opportunities a Step Further.
While Dallas’ previous matchups against clubs such as Barcelona, Club América, Houston and Chivas have come through friendlies and special events, the Crest Cup will create a national competition where those cross-league matchups can take place with a championship at stake.
For Dallas supporters, that could mean more opportunities to see Trinity face familiar rivals like Houston or take on NWSL clubs from across the country, this time in a tournament designed to crown one national women’s club champion.
A New Stage for Women’s Club Soccer
U.S. Soccer describes the Crest Cup as the first competition of its kind in the United States to bring the country’s two Division I professional women’s leagues together in an interconnected tournament. The competition is designed to create more opportunities for players and clubs while strengthening the broader women’s soccer ecosystem.
The tournament is comparable in concept to established domestic cup competitions such as England’s Women’s FA Cup, while creating a structure specifically connecting the NWSL and Gainbridge Super League. U.S. Soccer said the competition could eventually expand to include additional leagues and teams within the women’s soccer ecosystem.
The stakes extend beyond the opportunity to face new opponents. The $1.1 million winner’s prize represents a record-setting investment in domestic women’s club soccer, while the Concacaf W Champions Cup pathway gives clubs an opportunity to compete for a place on the international stage.
For Dallas Trinity FC, the Crest Cup represents another opportunity to continue building on a defining part of the club’s identity: bringing high-level women’s soccer to Dallas and creating opportunities to compete against clubs beyond its regular league schedule.
With the addition of the Crest Cup, those matchups could soon mean more than a one-night international friendly or a special event at the Cotton Bowl. They could be part of Dallas Trinity FC’s pursuit of a national championship.
