Dallas Trinity FC wrapped up its season series against Brooklyn FC with a hard-fought point on Saturday, battling back from a first-half deficit to earn a 1-1 draw at Maimonides Park.
After conceding in the opening half, Dallas continued to push for an equalizer and came close to leveling the score from the penalty spot. Seven Castain eventually found the breakthrough in the 86th minute, finishing off a setup from substitute defender Juliet “LJ” Moore to bring Dallas back into the game.
First Half: Brooklyn Strikes First
Brooklyn FC opened the scoring in the 30th minute when Tziarra King found the back of the net to give the home side a 1-0 lead.
Dallas looked for a response as the first half progressed, creating opportunities and putting pressure on Brooklyn’s defense. However, the equalizer didn’t come before the break, and Dallas headed into halftime trailing by one.
Second Half: Castain Comes Through In Crunch Time
Dallas continued to search for a way back into the match after halftime, creating several promising scoring opportunities. In the 69th minute, Jasmine Hamid had a chance to level the score from the penalty spot, but her attempt struck the post, keeping Brooklyn in front.
Dallas kept pushing, and its persistence finally paid off in the 86th minute. Moore delivered the ball to Castain, who found the back of the net to make it 1-1 and secure a point for Dallas.
Castain’s goal was her second of the season across eight appearances for Dallas, while Moore recorded the first professional assist of her career. After the match, Castain credited the team’s patience and the quality of the opportunities it created.
“Yeah, it was huge. It was a great team goal. LJ set me up with a perfect ball, and I think it just shows how we’ve been working. We really try to stay patient and create opportunities. Sometimes when you’re playing possession, you don’t get as many opportunities, but the ones you do get are high quality. It meant a lot to finally put one of those away for the team.”
The draw also marked an important moment for defender Giulianna Gianino, who made her professional and club debuts while earning her first start for Dallas Trinity FC. With her family in attendance, Gianino reflected on the experience after the match.
“I was happy to go back up Northeast and have my family here. It was huge for me. I felt very supported and felt like I had a lot of trust instilled in me throughout the couple weeks building up. It was really a dream come true.”
Head Coach Lee Nguyễn was pleased with the team’s determination to fight back and secure the result, highlighting Dallas’ control of the match while still acknowledging the goal it conceded.
“I thought the fight, determination and grit throughout the game were great. We controlled it for the most part. Unfortunately, we gave up a goal off our own transition. But I thought the fight from the girls all game was great, and then to be able to come back and get the point was good.”
