Hamid & Gamero help secure back-to back wins at home before long road trip
Dallas Trinity FC carried its momentum into Sunday’s match at the Cotton Bowl, defeating DC Power FC 2-1 for its second consecutive home win.
The victory gave Dallas another important result before a four-match league road swing. DC entered the afternoon ahead of Dallas in the standings and unbeaten away from home, but Trinity controlled much of the match and held on after building a two-goal lead.
First Half: Gamero Strikes Before Halftime
Wearing the new ‘Foundation’ kit for the first time this season, Dallas made two changes to the starting lineup. Felecia Knox earned a start, while Meila Brewer made her Dallas Trinity FC and professional debut.
Dallas dictated the opening half but had to wait for the breakthrough. Jasmine Hamid appeared to put Dallas ahead, but the goal was waved off.
Dallas Trinity FC finally broke through in the 42nd minute. Seven Castain forced the DC goalkeeper into a difficult save, and Onyeka Gamero pounced on the rebound to give Trinity a 1-0 lead heading into halftime. The goal was Gamero’s second of the fall season and marked her second straight match on the scoresheet.
Second Half: Hitzen and Hamid Double the Lead
Dallas continued to press after the break and produced one of the best plays of the match in the 56th minute.
From inside her own half, defender Cyera Hitzen split the DC defense with a perfectly weighted through ball. Hamid ran onto it with space, rounded the goalkeeper and finished to double the lead. The goal was Hamid’s third of the season, while Hitzen recorded her first assist of the campaign.
DC pulled one back 10 minutes later when Brewer was credited with an own goal. The rookie responded with composure, continuing to battle alongside the Dallas back line as Trinity protected its advantage.
“Amazing,” Brewer said of her debut. “It’s super nice to be out here and playing with these girls. It’s just so exciting, and I am excited to learn and grow with them. Obviously, there is a little pressure because you want to play well in everything, but I feel like I was really good coming out and had the prep. I just felt really good.”
Dallas closed out the 2-1 victory with 58.7% possession and 10 shots while limiting DC to one shot on target.
“I think the confidence has always been there,” head coach Lee Nguyen said. “The way we played in the first game and second game, we were controlling it. I think today we controlled it for the most part until that second goal, but being able to show them we can play against anybody and now the results are coming. So we can take that momentum into next week.”
The State Fair Clásico Awaits
Trinity now heads on the road for four league matches. When the club returns to the Cotton Bowl, it will welcome CD Guadalajara Femenil, better known as Chivas Femenil, for the State Fair Clásico on Saturday, October 17.
Sophia Braun, who began her professional career in Mexico, is looking forward to the matchup.
“It’s amazing. I am super excited,” Braun said. “Obviously, I played in that league my first year professionally, so it’s super special for me, and I think it’s an awesome league. I’m really excited, and I think we are going to get a great crowd. It’s going to be an amazing game.”
Tickets for the State Fair Clásico on October 17 are available now.
