Sealy Strawn, a Prosper native, and 17-year-old game-winning goal scorer, is one of our Dallas Trinity FC Academy players. We sat down with her this week to learn more about why she chose to play with Dallas Trinity, her plans for her soccer future, and much more.
Q: What has your soccer journey been like?
A: I started soccer when I was three, but I did not get on a team until I was five. My older brother is the reason I started soccer because he started playing before me since he is three years older than me. I went through rec soccer and then got on my first academy team when I was seven and then each year that I was there the academy got better as the years went on. I went to Solar Soccer Club 4 years ago and that is when my soccer journey took off. My coach from Solar helped me get to Dallas Trinity and that is where I am today.”
Q: Why did you want to play for Dallas Trinity?
A: I wanted to play for Dallas Trinity because it is an honor to be on the first professional women’s team in Dallas. I also knew it would be the best thing for my development as a player to get to the highest level before I go to college.
Q: What has been the best part about being on this team?
A: The coaches and the other players are the best part. They are all very encouraging, and they always cheer me on no matter what. They never hold my age or height against me. They are really good teammates.
Q: What is your favorite soccer memory?
A: My favorite soccer memory is when we won nationals with Solar in 2023 when we were U16s.
Q: What have you learned from the veteran players on Dallas Trinity?
A: To keep working hard, to always have effort on the field and to not let a mistake get you down for the rest of the game but to keep working.
Q: What are the next steps for you in your soccer career?
A: My next steps are to spend the rest of this year working on my individual play, and then I will go to University Of North Carolina to play in college, I plan on working on my strengths while I am there.
Q: Who is your biggest inspiration?
A: My older brother. He is very encouraging and he is very welcoming to everyone.
Q: What advice do you have for younger players who want to play professionally.
A: Don’t let the disappointments or setbacks discourage you, it is an opportunity to learn so just keep working hard and you will make it.
